Controlled Mechanical Ventilation: Healthy and Efficient Air

DAE Energia

What is Controlled Mechanical Ventilation?

Modern buildings are designed to be highly energy efficient. This means they are built with high-performance insulating materials and double or triple-glazed windows, which minimize heat loss. As a result, however, buildings also become much more airtight, limiting natural air exchange.

While on the one hand this airtightness helps reduce energy consumption, on the other it can lead to an accumulation of indoor pollutants, humidity and odors, with negative consequences on the health and well-being of the occupants.

VMC is an intelligent system that “breathes” in place of your home. It doesn’t just circulate air, but renews it continuously and in a controlled way, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

How does a VMC system work and what are the types?

Vertical (HCV ) and horizontal (HCC 2) domestic ventilation units are compact machines complete with control and regulation units. They are equipped with high efficiency cross-flow exchangers with low pressure drop to ensure minimum power absorbed for ventilation.

HCV Series

HCV ventilation units are vertical suspended type equipment, for domestic applications. The range includes models that meet the ventilation needs of homes up to 450 m2.

HCC Series 2

HCH ventilation units are horizontal type domestic appliances, designed to be installed in the attic, false ceiling or in a technical room. The range includes models that meet the ventilation needs of homes up to 280 m2.

VMC: Simple System

Controlled Mechanical Ventilation (VMC) is a system that ensures constant air exchange in closed environments, improving the quality of the air we breathe. There are two main types of VMC:

  • Single flow VMC: it draws in stale air from humid environments (bathroom, kitchen) and releases it outside, while fresh air enters through ventilation grilles or slits in windows.
  • Double flow VMC: it draws in stale air from humid environments and releases it outside, but at the same time it introduces fresh air from the outside, which is filtered and preheated (or cooled) before being released into the environments.

VMC with dehumidifier

The VMC with dehumidifier offers numerous advantages, including:

  • Humidity control: It keeps humidity levels under control, preventing the formation of mold and dust mites.
  • Improved air quality: In addition to dehumidifying, the VMC ensures constant air exchange, eliminating pollutants, odors and allergens.
  • Energy efficiency: Dehumidifying with a VMC is more efficient than using a traditional dehumidifier, as the continuous air exchange helps reduce excess humidity.
  • Living comfort: An adequate humidity level guarantees greater comfort.
VMC with dehumidifier is particularly suitable in the case of:
  • Environments with high humidity: Humid climate zones, houses with poor ventilation, environments with activities that produce steam (kitchens, bathrooms).
  • Mold or condensation problems: Dehumidification helps prevent and resolve these problems.
  • Presence of allergies or respiratory problems: An environment with healthy and controlled air helps reduce symptoms.
In conclusion: VMC with dehumidifier represents a complete solution to guarantee good air quality in the home, controlling both air exchange and humidity. It is an ideal choice for those looking for an efficient and multifunctional system to improve the comfort and healthiness of the environments.
Our proposals

ENC-VM is the innovative unit that uses the water from the heating system for all-air heating and cooling of homes with limited energy loads; it also guarantees air renewal with heat recovery combined with free-cooling and dehumidification of the environment.

It allows you to air condition, dehumidify the rooms and renew the air by extracting heat and recovering almost all of its energy, thus reducing operating costs and increasing the efficiency of the system.

The graphic display provided allows for personalized management and programming, including setting time slots or night and holiday mode, to obtain maximum energy savings. By combining the CO2 probe, it is also possible to constantly monitor the renewal and quality of the air, in relation to the people present in the environment.

Compact Unit

The PKOM4 compact unit contains 4 functions in a single device, which occupies a support surface of approximately 0,75 m², ventilation, heating, cooling and production of domestic hot water.

Controlled mechanical ventilation guarantees the introduction of clean and filtered air from outside into the rooms, ensuring the air exchange essential in the latest generation homes.

Technology available in two versions:

  • PKOM4 classic: version with production of domestic hot water
  • PKOM4 trend: version without production of domestic hot water

Advantages of Controlled Mechanical Ventilation

Why is VMC important?

  • Air healthiness: Eliminates stale air and pollutants, preventing the formation of mold and mites.
  • Living comfort: Ensures an optimal internal climate, avoiding sudden changes in temperature and humidity.
  • Energy saving: Thanks to heat recovery, it allows you to reduce heat loss and save on heating and cooling costs.
